MyCupcakes first OFFICIAL 2 Tier fondant cake - Part II

(Pic: Courtesy of Ju)

... Continued from previous entry....

Remember when I said the cake looked nice by itself like this:

I was wrong! It looked so much more wonderful with Orchids (Edible)....

Price starts from RM400 (Price varies subject to deco/difficulty of request/work involved)(but do tell us what you have in mind - and what's your budget like and we see what we can do for you)

This was a really good experience for me! Tiring.. but definitely a good one!

Based on the work/time/materials/effort done I now know and will now know how to charge accordingly. It is a gigantic feat peeps making wedding cakes! But I am sooo happy with the end result and it was worth it!

My heartfelt thanks to Ju and other half for trusting lil amateur me to bake and deco their wedding cake! I am proud to have been a part of their big day and that MyCupcakes' first OFFICAL 2 Tier fondant cake has finally made its debut ....

I couldnt have done it without my loved ones esp Erwin and Ee who painstakingly carried (with a worried look on their faces that they might just drop the 10kg cake!) the cake from the car to Ju's house... Thanks to little Emir too for being such a good boy while mummy was busy completing this gigantic task!

It is confirmed peeps... I loooooveeeee doin this... can you tell wink wink...

Do enjoy the pictures peeps and thanks for ever so patiently reading my entry and sharing my little journey...

Sincerely
Anor

MyCupcakes' first OFFICIAL 2 Tier Fondant Cake - Part I

Jeng jeng jeng peeps... the big day for both me and Ju has finally come!

Event: 29.11.2009 @ Ju's reception at her house

Ok, summary prior to MyCupcakes' first OFFICAL 2 Tier fondant cake:

Ju text-ed and email me whether I can bake and deco for her a 2 tier fondant cake based on a picture she sent me. I told her that I'd practise covering a cake first wholly with fondant and see whether I'd have the confidence to do it or not bearing in mind I do not have any formal training or such and the fact that the wedding cake is meant for someone's special day makes it a huge task and challenge for me!

First attempt covering a cake was a very good eye opener and my poor friend Ira had to put up with my endless questions with regards to the same. This was a really good experience as based on this first time attempt, I know what NOT to do for the next similar project.

Second attempt was wonderful! My confidence sky-rocketed when I manage to cover an 8" round pan cheese cake successfully. Baby steps peeps.. baby steps...

Third attempt and chance was given to me by the ever so generous En Awg Hashim. It gave me a firm grasp on how to cover a cake wholly with fondant cake as it was a 10" round pan cake (the size of bottom tier cake which I was planning to do for Ju).

Finally... Ju's big day have come....

The arrangement was for Ju to survey the market price charged by professionals and she came up with the quote and we later agreed on the terms of payments and such based on the same. The cake was supposed to be a 4kg fruit cake but once I have finished baking both the bottom and top tier weighing the same, the height does not look so good to me and so to satisfy my own expectations of my first 2 tier fondant cake, I baked double the amount and truth be told I was right! Always follow my cake sense!

The height is wonderful but now the cakes (only) weighs almost 6.3kg!:

I used up almost 3.5kg of fondant for the cake board, the bottom tier and the top tier:

Prior to assembly.

Ira told me that it was going to be difficult putting the top tier unto the bottom tier and my heart was pounding like made crazy... and she was right ... that is the most difficult part doing this cake...

As the top tier cake is heavy by itself, based on my research (reading, youtube etc) - dowels were required to support the weight of the top tier cake:

So far, I have only used fondant and buttercream in both decorating my BIG CAKE and CUPCAKES... and from my reading you are to use royal icing for the details on your fondant covered cake... and I didnt want to use any raw egg white to make my royal icing cause I scared myself silly with salmonela etc etc.. so my friend Zairin came to the rescue and bought me meringue powder and courier-ed them to me vide post... plus it'll give her the chance to shop hehehe... thanks Zairin =)

With trembling hands... pounding heart ... the two cakes are assembled and I have piped the details using royal icing and I just love the pearls I bought.. they go so well with the white background of the fondant:

I thought the cake looked nice like this by itself:

To be continued....

Be sure to tuned in to Part II

(hehe... have always wanted to say/write that =) )

Sincerely

Anor

Sparkly ting-a-ling-a-ling - Tinkerbell cake / 3rd time covering whole cake with fondant

Remember my previous entry:

Well, here it is ... the orders in details by En Awg Hashim for a combined birthday party for Yasmin and Abby.

CUPCAKES

When both he and his wife came over to the house, he ordered thirty (30) pieces of MyCupcakes (Later added another 2) with similar theme and design I did for Zara and here they are:

When he showed me a picture of MyCupcakes taken at Zara's birthday and how he described how he wanted the cupcakes for Yasmin and Abby to look like I basically have an idea how they would turn out. As I have stated in previous entry(ies), if I know how and for whom the function would be.. it makes the job easier and in this case... for two cute 3 and 8 year old girls... MyCupcakes then must be cute to the max and colours and colours of course!

I forgot to mention that little Yasmin also came to the house with En Awg and his wife Aida and she too was excited taking peeks at pictures of cupcakes on our handphones. Having met one of the bday girls made the work so much easy... she is so adorable.. so girly girly...

Here they are peeps, cupcakes for Yasmin and Abby:

Cuteness! I loved the colours!

SPARKLY TING-A-LING-A-LING ORDER - TINKERBELL CAKE

But the exciting part is that when En Awg later text-ed me whether I can deco a cake based on the following pictures (Will put up the same later) which he got from the net and of course I said yes! I just love this kind of orders and am always up to the challenge. Plus as I told En Awang I dont think I would be getting a lot of order for this sort of decorated cake (mainly due to the cost factor) and I also wanted to see how much work/time/effort (Muscle power) would be involved in creating such order.

But a cake covered wholly with fondant is sure is pretty! Just surf the net peeps and you would know exactly what I mean. The work these creative people do online is mind boggling... they are so beautiful and I shall strive to produce the best customised orders for you to the best of my abilities.

As you are all aware I love this kind of order and based on combined imagination and the pictures I came up with the following:

What do you guys think?

10" chocolate chiffon cake
2.7kg - cake only
2.8kg - cake with layer of vanilla buttercream frosting
layered with light pink full fondant and fondant deco
fondant used was roughly 1.3 kg

Total cake weight amounted to 4kg! phieewww....

I told En Awang that I dont have time to do the WHOLE Tinkerbell as per picture 1 above (which I will put up later) but I think the face and the wing would be sufficient for Tinkerbell's theme.

The cake would never have worked without capturing the essence of Tinkerbell right?... and courtesy of my other half... Tinkerbell's face was Hand drawn with edible Ink... Kudos and credit to En Erwin Effendy bin Sajali.... I tried drawing tinkerbell's face and tried using fondant to do the eyes and mouth etc... but didnt really work... but am happy to say the finishing touch was done by Erwin and alhamdulillah... we got Tinkerbell yeay!!

Initially I wanted to maintain the white base for the cake cause I was thinking that it would highlight the colours of all the flowers I did and that there will be small round fondant maybe with... lavender colour in the middle of the cake to highlight tinkerbell's face and wings... but En Awg said that he'd like the base of the cake to be light pink as it is her daughter's fav colours... and light pink it is... and it turned out beautiful! I bought those lovely tiny pearls and they looked stunning against the light pink of the cake! wonderful wonderful...

This is my THIRD attempt covering a whole cake with fondant and it was a good one! Third time's a charm... and insya allah will be put to good use for Ju's cake next week...

It takes a whole lotta of muscle power peeps kneading the almost 1.3kg-1.5kg fondant ... and a whole lotta time... It took me almost 3 hours to finish decorating the cake... but am so happy with the final result and so was En Awg... and for that I am happy...

Note: I requested pictures of the girls with their cake from En Awg and he said he will email them later and the best part was that he told me that the girls had a blast taking pictures with the cake... happy happy

Pictures courtesy of En Awang:

(That's cute-sy pie little Yasmin in the middle)

TINKERBELL Figurine

I thought it'd be nice to have a 3-D tinkerbell figurine.. but prior to putting it on the cake I asked En Awg first whether he'd like to have it on the cake and he said ok...

so this is MyCupcakes' birthday gift for Yasmin and Abby...

Enjoy the pictures peeps!

Sincerely
Happy happy joy joy
Anor @ MyCupcakes

Note:

Thanks for the order En Awg and thanks for the trust and confidence and giving me a chance to do this kind of order... For someone who has just met you once and was willing to put his trust in your hands.. PRICELESS!

MU and First Delivery

Adelia all the way from Miri requested for thirty (30) (Later added 2 more) pieces of MyCupcakes as surprise birthday cupcakes for SUFRI and yup peeps.. this is our first official delivery.

Kinda of exciting and it was over the weekend so we thought it'd be nice to give this fellow a suprise and not to tell him who the sender was!

Here they are:

The designs are as per picture provided by Adelia vide email.
Thanks Adelia for the order!

Note:

Had to cancel the Sunday delivery as SUFRI was not around (due to his working schedule) and we had to send the cupcakes the day after ie Monday (working day) at night. Plus finding the place at night is no easy feat... So based on this experience, in the event we decide to do delivery it will only be done on Sundays (no changes to delivery date or time) and charges shall applies accordingly.

We were already standing in front of his apartment and knocked on his door but ... unfortunately he was not home at the time ... so I had to call him up to inform him of the delivery (he still doesnt know who they are from) and so he asked us to wait for awhile... It would have been a much better surprise if he were at home dont you think?

Anyways, this was our first delivery and gave us a lot to consider should we decide to accept any request for further delivery(ies).

Excitement ahead

Hi peeps...

December is just around the corner and uuuuu I have so much plans... and I do hope that I'd be able to realise some of the plans which I have been talking about for ages ... wherein time has yet to permit me to do the same..

I've got a wonderful "sparkly" ting-a-ling-a-ling feeling kinda of project this coming weekend for Yasmin and Abby... my 2 tier fondant wedding cake for Ju is coming up at end of this month... Next month's Zyzy's wedding cake... I just love this kind of projects! Keep me on my toes and the challenges of giving my customers want they want and how they would want their cakes and cupcakes to look like for their events and functions... the time and effort spent on the cakes and cupcakes are so worth it once the you see the end result before your very eyes... priceless!

Which is exactly why sometimes I get so impatient with my decorating (Well, Erwin pointed that one out)... I want to see the end result and just cant wait to see the reaction on my customers' faces!

Anyways, this morning I went to check the goin-ons in my facebook (Do add me peeps, vide my email: anorrisah@yahoo.co.uk ... if you like - I'd be happy to add you to my list of friends..)... and I had the most wonderful news... which I will share with you... but then you have to be patient... you have to wait until either the 21 or the 22 of this coming month k... cause I have to wait that long too hahhaa

I need to find time to update my blog and finalise all the new items/pricing/details of cakes like... weight/deco/fillings etc.... in my BIG CAKE menu... truthfully speaking never in my wildest dream that I'd be venturing into BIG CAKES cause I was so intimated with baking and decorating them.. with cupcakes I could evenly distribute my feelings to each and every single one I bake.. but to pour your heart and soul into ONE BIG CAKE... Phieeww... that's a whole lotta of commitments there peeps... but happy to say I am over that anxiety now... in fact looking forward to baking and decorating BIG CAKES.... I hope I'll get so much better at this that I can do this with my eyes closed hehehe.. so the drama ya...

Well, just some update on the goin on of MyCupcakes' developments to date.. ish ... sounds like a newsletter indah there hahaha.

Take care peeps
Thanks for all your supports... will try my best to keep this hip chic and happening... yippeaa yea yea

Regards
Sincerely

All the best for SPM 90

Kak Irma ordered twelve (12) pieces of MyCupcakes for her daughter Azreen who is going to sit for her SPM paper starting 18.11.2009 and wanted that the theme is to inspire and to wish Azreen all the best for her papers. They were meant to be a surprise.. awww so sweet la kak irma...

After my late mom passed away, her responsibilities heavy as they were fell upon my shoulders being the eldest of the lot and I do understand the anxiety the parents are feeling for and on behalf of their children. My son is only 1yr8m and I would be happy enough if he could just express his needs instead of throwing tantrums, if you know what I mean. I think I would be content enough if he would just grow up to be a good person with a good sense and judgment and be good to others and of course be pious as that is indeed the very pillar which makes a man... a man...

Well, enough rambling... I do get carried away when I talk about kids now that I am a mummy myself.

In the mean time, here they are:

Enjoy the pictures.
Thanks Kak Irma for your order and your continuous support!

Note: Boh terkejut mun one fine day me Erwin and Emir will show up with vanilla cupcakes with fresh cream for you... tuuu deee luuuuu....

Shocked

As we approached our house, a car (unknown to us) was driving out of our porch - most probably somebody reversing their car... but as we parked our car (we just got back from the airport sending Erwin off to Sibu and Emir was asleep in my arms)... a guy came out and asked my sister "Tok rumah orang molah cupcakes ka?" (Is this the correct address for Anor - who bakes cupcakes?)... and so my sister said: "Yes, my sister". First thought that came to mind ... Adoh!! Did I forget a pickup?

So I asked him... how did he know of our address? This because usually MyCupcakes' would first get either an SMS or email with regards to ordering and once payment has been made/confirmed then only we would provide our home address for pick up at the agreed time.

Apparently, the address was given to them by Kak Tuty's mom who came to pick up the cupcakes for Zara's bday. Kak Tuty was in KL at the time so the pick up was made on her behalf by her mom and the only info she could provide was our address... which gave me quite a heart attack...

They later wanted to order for a combined bday party for Yasmin and Abby for the coming Sun and apparently just found out that I have a blog. I told them to go and have a look and if there is anything they like, they could always SMS me...

Till then peeps.. just something to share on this rainy day @ 16.11.2009

Christy's order

Christy ordered nine (9) pieces of MyCupcakes with specific orders for decoration. Apparently this is her second time ordering from me and I was planning to say NO again to to her cause she only told my sister that she wanted FONDANT deco On Wed and wanted to pick them up on Friday... headache headache... Too short notice for fondant...

Note peeps: Please please.. give me ample time to do your fondant deco k... they do take time to dry...

So kesian, so I said yes and I prayed hard (and also asked Christy to do the same) that it would be bright and sunny and hot and warm day so that my fondant will dry in time...

And alhamdulillah.. they did! Usually, the arrangement would be for my sis to bring to her work place and pass them to her colleagues but this time around my sis was in Sibu and so since that morning the fondant were slightly wet still.... we made the arrangement for Christy to come and pick up that afternoon... and look and behold they have dried completely ... except for that one tiny heart... still slight wet... and yeay! Christy got her order! Happy happy!

So here they are peeps:

Thanks Christy for the order!
2 MU Edible image
6 cigarettes
hearts
b**bs (She had a good laugh when I said her colleagues just loves to order and make me do this! blush blush)
Bikini

Anyways, Enjoy the pictures!

RED CAR theme for IAN

Hasrina ordered ten (10) pieces of MyCupcakes for her 3 year old son, Ian's bday last Sat (14.11.2009). She said that the loves his RED CAR and ordered two cupcakes to be decorated with top full fondant with red car deco and that to write happy bday IAN and ADAM and to also hand draw red car and guns. She actually wanted me to do a fondant GUN for her son but the request was made too short of a notice that I had to decline for fear that it will not dry completely for her pick up agreed time.

So here they are:

The red sport cars... dont play play hahahaha

Note: See the no 3 on the cars... yup, Ian's age!

Thanks Hasrina for the order!

New item in MyCupcakes' CAKE menu - CHEESE CAKE

I have been wanting to watch Rachel Allen's baking show but somehow or rather I will always miss her show which airs on Fridays @ 7pm @ 703 (Asian Food Channel Astro)... and it just so happen, I was baking quite late (most probably I started late cause my son doesn't want to go to sleep) and at 2am in the morning I finally manage to catch a rerun of the show and imagine me... at 2am scribbling recipe on an envelope (The only paper I could find in the middle of the night) while watching Rachel make the easiest CHEESE Cake recipe I have ever seen!!!

So i had cheese cake thoughts of this (I'm like this until I give it a try) and somehow I have been quite busy throughout the week and put up a wall post on my facebook. (Do add me peeps if you like - just add me using my email k).... and my expecting friend MAS, requested that I bake for her this cheese cake.... peeps, as you all know, what an expecting mommy wants an expecting mommy gets right!

So i finally found time to bake my cheese cake! My first attempt at it. I baked one for own consumption - for the approval of family members first of course - my SIRIM =) and one for Mas. She asked me to charge her but I thought it'd be nice to just give her (and the baby) the cheese cake...

So here it is peeps:

8" round pan
1kg Plain Cheese Cake
RM45.00 (Un-decorated)

With deco - fresh cream only (compliments the taste of the cheese cake) RM55
Note: Any other requests for deco - kindly provide me with details and charges apply accordingly.

Note:
Now our house has endless supply of cheese cake ...
Cause whenever I have an order for cheese cake I'd just easily bake one extra pan for home =)

Further note:
I've got to find time to sort out my BIGCAKE Menu... but just in case you need to find out anything or couldnt find the information you wanted in my blog.. just text me or email k, would be glad to help.

Thanks peeps!

Take care!

My SECOND attempt at covering a whole cake with FONDANT

Dayang wanted to surprise her husband, Man for his bday with a special bday cake (Wed @ 11.11.2009) and since he doesnt quite fancy choc nor vanilla, so she ordered cheese cake from me. She gave a pic of how she would want the cake to be vide fb.

She wanted the wordings HAPPY BDAY MY DARLING and requested for only one (1) cat figurine but I added the other one and the little mouse as "bday gift" for Man, who happens to be a close friend of mine since school.

I was happy with Dayang's order cause I would have a chance to practise covering a whole cake with fondant for the SECOND time and the fact that my cheese cake is only 8" in width it was a great opportunity at that. It will further build up my skill and confidence as I have a 2 tier wedding cake for Ju for her reception on 29.11.2009.

I learnt a lot from my previous first attempt and from all the mistakes I made. I know now what NOT to do.... My friend, Ira helped me a lot on this. Patiently answering my questions. All this came down on the day of covering the cake and yipppeee yea yea I did it peeps...

Take a look ... my second fondant cake with figurine:

The surface was rather smooth as oppose to before
It did not sweat at all unlike the first time

Insya Allah, I can do this with more confidence.. which would come with practise of course!

Anyways, do enjoy the pictures!

Had fun doing this and the fact that my second attempt was a wonderful improvement... I would be more confident for my future orders which would require me covering a whole cake with fondant

Note:
Have a happy happy bday Man and do enjoy your cake!

Thanks Dayang for the wonderful order and your confidence and support in yours truly!

Sincerely
Anor

Aizat's master piece - Van Gogh Starry Night

Ok peeps, apart from the very the tall Rainbow Cake I made for Aizat;

he who happens to be an avid fan of Van Gogh's paintings asked whether I can deco his cupcakes based on VG's master piece - Starry night! Of course I said yes! I love this kind of order and the challenge of completing this task!

He wanted 35 pieces of MyCupcakes, but it would be difficult to have a "square" decorated assembled cupcakes... so I just added 5 more... easy decision... His mom wanted to pay me... but I told her they were "bday gifts" for Aizat... Feels like Santa Claus there for a moment hahaha... but giving does give you that feeling ya?

So peeps have a look and see whether I have done justice to Van Gogh's master piece:

Enjoy the pictures!
