Office Treats for KUBS

Dewi Noorain ordered twenty (20) pieces of MyCupcakes to be given away to Kumpulan Ukor Bahan Sarawak (KUBS) as a farewell gift. She did her practical term there and thought it'd be nice to give them a parting gift/thank you gift. All she wanted was MyCupcakes to be packed individually and to write TQ KUBS unto MyCupcakes and left all the decoration to me.

So, I thought a basket of flowers would also be a nice farewell gift.. so i decorated MyCupcakes for Dewi to look like it had a basket of flowers. But my sister told me they looked more like flowers dangling/perched on top of a fence... hehehe

So here they are:

Special Request for Anniversary

My sis' friend requested for "apa-apa ajak" (which literally means "I leave everything to you and your discretion").. even in terms of no of MyCupcakes but then again, she specifically requested for bikini (and specifically requested for bigger b**bs as oppose to the ones I did for Kak Irma (blush blush) cause she found them to be hilariously funny), make up kit, baby bootie, baby bootle and I HEART YOU to celebrate her anniversary.

The thing is that she did order once from me but unfortunately I had to say NO due to time factor and last minute request and MyCupcakes' calendar was quite packed at the time. This time around she ordered MyCupcakes for her anniversary and was inspired after visiting my blog and seeing the designs of MyCupcakes which I did for Kak Irma.

Oh ya, and I made one (1) camera for her husband who is an avid camera man. See how the camera turned out in the pictures below and see if you can identify the said camera.

This is how they turned out:
Baby Bootie

Baby pacifier
The ensemble of baby bottle, baby bootie and baby pacifier

Bikini .. had a good laugh making this one =)
I didnt have enough time to do the bikini top so just had to do the necessary and cover the "essentials" only

MyCupcakes Defeated!! Car logos!

My friend Shafiza ordered twenty five (25) pieces of MyCupcakes (and one (1) piece of MyCupcakes for her husband) for her brother SHAH's 25th birthday. She specifically requested for sports cars such as Fairlady, Evo, RX8 etc to be drawn unto Shah's cupcakes and I was so excited with this orders and also had visions of RED FERRARI among others..
Knowing myself and Erwin, we'd do research on our customer's requests and printed out pictures of above said cars as guidelines for the decoration!

MyCupcakes' work place - must always be organised and tidy!

I tried and I tried and all the cars I did turned out to look like toy cars ... sob sob...

I was all prepared to see the end result wherein you'd be able to identify the sports cars which were decorated unto MyCupcakes (that is how we regards as success when it comes to decorating MyCupcakes if such are based on actual designs).

There I was with my prints and Erwin's laptop ready to deco... but for almost 1 hour, I tried and tried but each car drawn turned out looking like TOY CARS and none as I have imagined them to be!!! I tried and I tried but alas.... MyCupcakes defeated!! This is the first time that I am unable to comply with MyCupcakes' special requests!

I called Shafiza and told her about this and suggested that the decoration on MyCupcakes for Shah to be substituted with car logos instead. She said it was ok and that I have one (1) year to practise to draw all the sports cars for Shah's birthday next year! Gosh.. so sweet of her! Sob sob! I do wish that I could have decorated as she wished!

But putting that aside, I proceeded with the decoration and this is how they turned out to be:

As I told Shafiza, I am happy that she is happy with the substituted decoration for MyCupcakes

for Shah's birthday but

it would have been nicer if I could have given her what she wanted and

how she wanted MyCupcakes to be in the first place.

MyCupcakes joined Cupcake Decorating Class by irabakery

When I first started MyCupcakes or when the cupcake bug bit me... all of MyCupcakes were lovingly made based on self-taught methods/experiments/reading/research on the net and basically MyCupcakes had NO formal training...

Nonetheless, I have been meaning to join a proper class where I could actually learn how to deco properly/learn the tricks of the trade... and to achieve one of my aims (among others).... which is to learn how to pipe a buttercream ROSE...

I went online in search for a cupcake decorating class here in Kuching and I found irabakery.blogspot.com @ Kak Shanti Farida. She put up pictures of her cupcake classes and I found my friend Marini in one of the pictures. And it turned out... Marini is also Kak Shanti's friend (Gosh Kuching is such a SMALL town where everybody seems to know everybody!)

The class was held last sunday (21.6.2009) from 9am - 1pm at Matang. Further details can be obtained from irabakery.blogspot.com

Actually, (just a quick one) before I tell you more about the class. Prior to this class, on the Thursday of 18.6.2009 I had a meeting at Federal Building Simpang 3 where the meeting was also attended/arranged by En J who represented his company. En J and his colleagues knew of my new endeavour with cupcakes and I was happily telling him that I'd be joining a cupcake class that coming weekend. Guess what?! The first thing he said was "Are you joining Shanti's class?". And one of my friends, Hasmiah also knows this Kak Shanti personally.... Sigh... Kuching IS such a SMALL town... En J didnt tell me exactly how he knew Kak Shanti and that I am to find out myself from Kak Shanti but both he and Hasmiah did tell me to send his regards to Kak Shanti...

Anyhow, there were just three of us. Myself, and I made two new friends, Ida and Kak Aji Jamilah. Ida and I are in the same boat... and Kak Aji Jamilah (whose parents are also involved with baking) who was there to learn how to bake for her grandchildren as she is anticipating birthdays and other such events for her grandchildren... Kak Aji told me that back then there will always be "palak meja cake" for Hari Raya whereby the cake (usually fruit cake) will be beautifully adorned with royal icing (her father used to make this kind of cakes) and will only be eaten (usually) after one week of hari raya atleast... I didn't know that honestly... Well, you learn something new everyday...

"Palak (head of table) meja (table) cake" here is referring to a "Cake as a centre piece ".

Later Kak Lin also joined in the class.. and guess what?! Kak Lin is apparently En J's daughter hahaha and as I said earlier... (Gosh Kuching is such a SMALL town!) and it turned out Kak Shanti is En J's niece.. sigh... I don't mind repeating this... (Gosh Kuching is such a SMALL town!)

I learnt a lot from the class and had a fun time learning. I learnt how to vary the consistency of my buttercream and yeay! Most of all, I am happy to say I can also pipe buttercream roses but I do still need more practise!

My buttercream rose... sigh.... dreamy...

Any how, these are some of the pictures taken of cupcakes which I decorated during the class:

We learned how to pipe basket weave, elmo, shell piping, rose, rosette, leave using buttercream.

The fondant designs were baby pram, baby sleeping underneath blanket and small bird/duck.

Thanks Kak Shanti! Had fun and learnt a lot from you!
Once I have mastered cupcakes ... Insya Allah I will move on to CAKES...

Kelak kamek join kelas kek kitak ok ("would love to join your cake classes in due course") =)

I didnt bring my camera that day, so now have to wait for pictures from Kak Aji Jamilah and Kak Lin and Kak Shanti. Will put up more pictures once I have received the same from them k!

Happy happy joy joy

MyCupcakes as Engagement Gift

My sister in law Nazimah ordered ten (10) pieces of MyCupcakes to be given to her friend as an engagement gift and told me that their theme was either green or gold.

With regards to the "gold" colour, my next buy would be to get those silver/gold lustre to add to MyCupcakes' tool of trade... will update you of course!

Anyhow, she opted for green and that I am to put the each letter of her friend and her friend's fiancee's name on them, hence the ten (10) pieces. My sis in law suggested that I do something like what I did for Fieza's friend but I came up with the following instead:

More personalised for their occasion.

Here they are:

Just FYI, I charge the above at RM3.50/each

Birthday cupcakes for Adzlan with Musical Theme

My friend Azreeny ordered twenty five (25) pieces of MyCupcakes for her brother, Adzlan's 18th birthday and she wanted a musical theme for him! Great! This is my first order with such theme and was looking forward to doing them!

Azreeny @ Mama to Elisa and baby Darwisy told me that both kakak and adik approved of the cakes! Yeay! The last time I gave Elisa cupcakes, she preferred the buttercream better than the vanilla cake itself, but this time around she prefers the cakes! Yeay! Happy happy! Cause children are the most honest customers one can ask for and apparently kakak told her mama that it would have been nicer to have chocolate inside the chocolate cupcakes! This comes from a 3 year old, I tell you... so clever... kids nowadays aaa... you don't play play aaaa

So, here they are:

Happy Father's Day Bang Lan

Kak Irma ordered twelve (12) pieces of MyCupcakes for her husband Bang Lan (Erwin's cousin) for Father's day celebration last sunday (21.6.2006). I like getting orders from Kak Irma because she knows what and how she wants her cupcakes to be! She listed out the Bang Lan's favourite things to be incorporated unto MyCupcakes and one of the items was football!

I wanted so much to do a football field and put figures of football players with football net/goal post and so Erwin and Emir were dragged along last weekend trying to find them... Initially I thought that they should be easy to find or atleast in abundance in the toy department or equivalent but there were none... so I resorted to just buying those round chocolates with its covers looking like a "football ball" (Or is that redundant?) ... Gosh I am so not a sports person... well, just a quick story that comes with the cupcakes...

Kak Irma also listed out (other than football) Liverpool, jazz theme and cars... The Liverpool logo is the hardest to do what with its details and all... Insyallah.. next time, will do better!

So here they are:

Vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream frosting

That "car" is supposed to be an "Alphard" by the way

Erwin wasn't feeling well last weekend, otherwise I would have put him to work drawing MORE of cars deco on Bang Lan's cupcakes...

MyCupcakes as Gift for Engagement

Atiqah's sister ordered nine (9) pieces of MyCupcakes to give away to her friend's engagement event as a gift and all she told Atiqah to tell me was that "apa-apa ajak" (Literally means - I leave all the deco in your hands and it is all up to you!)...

After baking the cake and the cake has cooled down, I kinda took my sweet time deciding what to do with them.. usually I'd be prepared in terms of decorating MyCupcakes by drawing and colouring my planned decoration in my drawing book so I know exactly what to do/how to design them... but this time around.. I just let it be and decided to see how it'd go on the decorating day..
So this is how they turned out:

Happy Father's Day for Haji Man who loves flowers

Munira ordered ten (10) pieces of MyCupcakes for her father Haji Man to celebrate Father's Day. Muni is my neighbour and wanted to surprise her father with MyCupcakes. She left all the decoration to me.

I have known Haji Man since I was a kid and the fact that he loves his flowers gave me ideas on how to deco MyCupcakes.

I saw Haji Man and Mak Aji Pong this morning before I went off to work and they were happy with MyCupcakes and actually gave me two (2) thumbs up! Am beaming with proud because they come from both people whom I have known for ages and they fact that they too are in the cakes/kuih business!

So here they are:

My first attempt at piping Sunflower and it has been soooo long since I last wrote in Jawi =)

Happy Father's Day - MyCupcakes Red Collection

Remember my RED Collection which I made for Erwin's mother's birthday? That was when I first started with MyCupcakes. I was really happy/proud with that one cause at that stage I just started to learn how to properly pipe and deco using buttercream and the work was getting more neat ...

Anyhow, Fieza's friend (see... told you most of my entries would start with this hahhaa), ordered sixteen (16) pieces of MyCupcakes for her father for this Happy Father's Day celebration and she designed all the decoration herself based on my RED Collection! So I followed her instructions and decorated MyCupcakes as shown by Fieza's friend below:

And this is how they turned out:

She was happy with MyCupcakes and of course MyCupcakes is
happy happy too... and
that is all that matters!

She was also worried that her kids would want some of MyCupcakes for themselves and decided that she'd give away twelve (12) pieces for her aunty and three for her kids... well MyCupcakes intervened and gave three for her kids... FOC and with pleasure...

For Rudiah's children =)

Here they are:

All the deco and designs were as requested by Rudiah herself and MyCupcakes is just happy to comply =)

MyCupcakes Marvel-lous Collection

Finally we had the time to do what Erwin has been wanting to do for ages... MyCupcakes Marvel-lous collection!

MyCupcakes' calendar was free until next Saturday and my sister and brother took Emir out for awhile, so we had a relaxing time decorating MyCupcakes ...

Honestly, for me personally, trying to pipe the exact cartoon characters is difficult to do/even trying to the best of your abilities to capture the actual essence of the cartoon character is hard as it will not turn out as nice as the real authentic ones. Which is why I am quite reluctant/intimidated(?) to do cartoon characters and have decided to leave all the cartoon characters to Erwin.

But Erwin came up with this idea that the characters need not be exactly as the actual characters but we can modify it a bit so that it resembles more to the Japanese' versions of their comical cartoon characters known as "chibi". I like that idea.

So I tried doing "Spiderman" (which is the easiest) and I also did "Cyclops" and "Hulk" (all based on Erwin's drawings)! And they turned out ok! Yeay!

There is still hope for me people with decorating MyCupcakes with cartoon/anime characters!

So, when I have the time, I'll experiment again and will put up pictures of course! In any event, the good thing about baking/decorating MyCupcakes is that you can always eat them up or give them away hahha

Anyways, too much rambling, see if you can identify these characters. If you can identify them, that means Erwin and I had achieved what we set out to do.

MyCupcakes Marvel-lous collection

Enjoy the pictures!

By the way, for these MyCupcakes, they had fillings -
there were peanut butter, choc + cheese, chocolate and cheese -
not bad for a first attempt!
