AFTER valentine's day - CAN

Dear peeps...

Love is in the air... la la la la...

I have had a few asking for MyCupcakes to celebrate their Valentine's day... but am sorry that I have to decline and would be unable to take your orders for the same... I know I know.. valentine cupcakes now are somewhat synonymous with the celebration and a part of the big day ... but I have made a promise to a close friend of mine, Puan Aimie that I would bake and deco for her daughter and her nieces... four (4) bday cakes for that day (14.2.2010) and prior to that day on (13.2.2010) I have a wonderful birthday cake project for little LEO and little DANISH.

So with a heavy heart I would say that for valentine's day celebration... there would be NO taking orders for pick up(s) on 13 - 14.2.2010.... but AFTER Valentine's day... can =)

After all every day hik hik hik.. should always be treated like it's a Valentine's day... well, that's just me....

2 separate orders for one bday boy

Kak Adlin initially left a msg on MyCupcakes' chatbox asking whether I can bake her a strawberry cake but later on decided that she wants strawberry cupcakes instead. I do love trying out new recipes and I do intend to add more to my currently limited to vanilla and choc cake/cupcakes' recipe. It's just that I couldnt find the time... but when an order requires you to do so.. you find the time and yippee yea yea... I made my first batch of strawberry cupcakes... =)

Kak Adlin also requested some specific wordings. She also asked for some suggestions on the strawberry cupcakes so I suggested to add some real strawberries and she said ok.


So here they are peeps:









Sixteen (16) pieces of strawberry cupcakes
topped with vanilla buttercream
topped with whipped cream and fresh strawberry

At the same time, I got another SMS from Esty wanting twenty (25) cupcakes - but for a different date (but later on it was decided that both orders will be picked up on the same day). So I told Esty that Kak Adlin (her sis in law) also ordered from me for Yussarovie's (the bday boy). Esty said it's ok and then.. "Let him shower in cupcakes" hahaha

So here is Esty's order for her brother:

Deepest condolences to the family of the late Ms Irene Lim

A sad entry on this rainy monday morning.

Justin and I had a series of e-mail correspondences with regards to MyCupcakes' wedding doorgift for his upcoming wedding with Ellen this coming 11.2.2010. It was a 250 pieces of cupcakes with top full fondant and that the theme is to be of flowers/butterflies and in pastels. I love this kind of order and was looking forward to being part of their big day.

But the fact that both Justin and Ellen are working abroad in New Zealand, the arrangement was for Ellen's mom to come over to my place to place some deposit (I require a 50% deposit for big orders) and Justin gave me Ellen's mom Hp No. I saved her no in MyCupcakes' phone as Ellen's mom. The thought did occur to me that how would I address her in case she decides to call right? So I e-mailed Justin asking him of her name and he said it was Irene Lim.

Justin also told me that she works around Petra Jaya and this would make it easy for her to find my house.

Yesterday, Saturday (23.1.2010), my husband's cousin's wife (Kak Daydet)(who works for a corporation located in PetraJaya) put up a post on her facebook entry informing that Ms Irene Lim has passed away last Friday. Immediately I replied to her post asking whether this is the one and the same Irene Lim who as a daughter named Ellen working abroad in New Zealand. Kak Daydet said yes. An dreaded answer which I knew was forthcoming.

How said it must feel for the family and especially Justin and Ellen that she left in the midst of their upcoming wedding. So I sent an email to Justin expressing how sorry I felt for him, Ellen and the whole family. I lost my mother 7 years ago ... and I still remember how hurtful it was like it was just yesterday.

I may not know her personally but I came to know of her and was even expecting her call/her to come over to my place some time next week..

Justin was apologetic when informing me that the wedding has been cancelled and I told him that I totally understand and that he shouldnt be worried about it.

Again, my deepest condolences to the family of the late Ms Irene Lim for their loss. May you be strong during period of deepest sorrow.

Happy 7th Bday Qadija - Power Puff Girls theme

Ewin called me and said that they are going to have a birthday party for her 7 year old sister Qadijah and that they would like her birthday cake to be a 2-tier fondant cake (top tier to be in baby blue and bottom tier to be in baby pink). Theme - Power Puff Girls!

I was in a definite definite "glee" mode with this order.

Here it is peeps:

Top tier

2 8" vanilla buttercake sandwiched together by vanilla buttercream frosting

Bottom tier

10" vanilla buttercake

(cake frosted with vanilla buttercream and fully covered with fondant)

Further note: I forgot that on this pick up day - it was a working saturday for me.. so I only manage to start decorating at 2pm once I come back from work.. and the pickup is at 6pm (cause the party starts at 7pm) .... mmg rasa amazing race this one. But alhamdulillah ... I loved how the cake turned out! The girl guide in me always always.. when it comes to decorating cakes and cupcakes... always always be prepared and plan ahead prior to decorating.

HAPPY BDAY NEK MAN (MAT) AND AZAT

Raynee said that her father enjoyed the vanilla cupacakes I made for her and was wondering whether I could use the same recipe and make a big birthday cake for her father instead. She also asked whether I could make a layer of jelly on top of the cake. Both are first time for me and was kind of looking forward to doing the cake as per Raynee's requests. Raynee also e-mailed me her drawing of what she would want written on top of the cake.

Note: The funny thing about this order is that is mis-spelt the name .. it should be NEK MAN.. instead of NEK MAT... adoh! But Raynee told me her dad enjoyed the cake. What a lovely way to start the day when I got her sms!

CRAVING AND VALENTINE

My expecting fren, Mas who is due next month text-ed me and asked whether she can order from me and when I asked her when she would like them.. she said soonest... expecting mummy's craving =) and luckily I had some order and decided to just give her some... peeps! As you all are aware, what an expecting mummy wants... an expecting mummy gets.. am just happy to comply.

But the thing is since my minimum order is 16 I wasn't able to deliver the same night but Mas said they are willing to wait for the same over the weekend which is fine by me. Mas said they would like a valentine's theme.

The thing is I only have the clear window box with sixteen (16) inserts (which cost RM4 and charged separately - subject to availability - do check with me first k) and initially all the designs I made were meant to be arranged as 16 pieces as a whole. But later Mas told me they would like to have them in two (2) boxes instead and here they are:

Wedding Doorgift for Eda and Wan

Eda and Wan wanted fifty (50) pieces of MyCupcakes for their reception at Dewan Hikmah (on Wan's side of the family) and requested for a red and white theme (similar to what I did in this entry - http://anor-mycupcakes.blogspot.com/2009/08/red-and-white-hearts-for-engagement.html.

I made some variations to personalise their request for the function and here they are peeps:

For En Halim

I did a post mortem of what went wrong with MyCupcakes for En Halim and with Raynee's assistance I have summed up that... I believe that it is case of me seeing "A" in my head.... but in actual fact it was "B" that's envisioned in his mind. And I never ever want that to happen again. This is another wake up call for me.

I followed the orders to-the-T... Based on emails between me and Raynee who extended the order on behalf of En Halim. Apparently the list of what he wanted was based on pictures posted in my blog of my previous orders... (and the pictures were not specifically stated in the emails). Hence the truth in A LITTLE KNOWLEDGE IS A DANGEROUS THING. I know that now and the full meaning of the same in my context.

So, basically he did not get what he had envisioned when I delivered what I had in mind/thought he wanted. So it was a total misunderstanding on both parties and poor Raynee ... was stuck in amidst of the hillu-billuu huu ha-ness and my kamboh-ness of trying to figure out what went wrong and when a customer is not happy ... basically MyCupcakes is NOT happy... and I never ever want that to happen again...

I am sharing this not because I want to highlight what went wrong nor do I intend to mean any harm to anyone whatsoever... esp to En Halim of any sort ... but so it is a reminder and lesson to me to ensure that this will never ever happen again... In actual fact I should not be telling people that I did something wrong, what would that do to the MyCupcakes' name and credibility right logically speaking ... but I have to be honest with myself and my peeps ... and as Erwin repeatedly say to sooth my anxiety state at that point in time... it is always a lesson and a way to improve myself...

I love doing this... and what does cupcakes and cakes do to people? It should mean celebration! Happy happy joy joy right? ... and not this ...

There was also no request for clear window box - which was assumed as part of the package. This could have been avoided if the request has been made to me... nonetheless I believe this is in its entirety my fault as... it is still hard to maneuver around my blog when it comes to finding details on how to order etc etc... and I did not update the same with regards to extra charges with it comes to the clear window box....

... which is exactly why I am taking the time off to come up with better details in my blog with regards to pricing, how to order etc... This is because when customers do not specifically request for that box, hence all MyCupcakes will be packed in the normal cake box - free of charge. But if a request is made, then (subject to availability), they shall be packed in that clear window box and price of box shall apply accordingly.

Anyways, I am glad that I have sorted this out... I have to move on and have a clear conscience to start afresh in this journey of mine. What a year it has been...

Anyways, Raynee told me that I got En Halim to smile with these:
